Overview
The Senior Legal Associate will support in providing legal information to migrants in Bulgaria under the supervision of IOM's National Project Officer and Head of Mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide accurate legal information on Bulgarian asylum legislation to migrants.
- Explain procedural requirements related to documents, welfare rights, education, housing, and healthcare access.
- Compile, summarize, analyze, and present information/data on specific legal topics.
- Draft correspondence on legal issues, prepare and update reports, and coordinate with colleagues.
- Organize meetings, workshops, and training sessions, and prepare training materials.
- Conduct information sessions on legal topics.
- Respond to complex information requests and maintain files/records.
- Participate in meetings and conferences and coordinate with local authorities and stakeholders.
- Provide inputs for the development of SOPs and concept papers on legal matters.
- Undertake any other duties as assigned.
Required Experience
- School diploma with six years of relevant experience; or, Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant professional experience.
- Advantageous: Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations.
- Advantageous: Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups.
- Advantageous: Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting.
Qualifications
