Overview
The Economic Affairs Officer will support the follow-up to the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development and related intergovernmental processes. The role involves monitoring economic developments, conducting studies, and developing policy recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitors economic developments related to financing for sustainable development and identifies recurrent and emerging issues.
- Designs and conducts studies of selected issues in economic development and draft resulting reports.
- Develops draft policy recommendations pertaining to financing for development.
- Formulates proposals for development strategies, policies and measures.
- Attends international, regional, and national meetings.
- Organizes expert group meetings, seminars, etc.
- Carries out research and policy analysis on issues related to financing for sustainable development.
- Organizes consultative and other meetings related to the Conference.
- Prepares inputs to statements for senior officials, documents, presentations and other substantive inputs.
- Prepares speeches and other inputs for presentations by senior staff.
- Provides substantive support on economic issues to intergovernmental bodies.
- Follows intergovernmental meetings and prepares summary reports.
- Prepares inputs to statements by members of the ECOSOC Bureau and Secretariat staff.
- Supports in the organization of panels, round tables etc. on development issues.
- Supports in coordination of the ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development Followup and its preparatory process.
- Represents organizational unit at international, regional and national meetings.
- Supports junior staff, reviewing their work and providing feedback.
- Participates in intra- and inter-Departmental undertakings.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Undertakes on-the-job and other training activities.
Required Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes or related area is required. Experience on financing for development issues is required. Experience supporting intergovernmental processes related to financing for development is required. Experience in organizing and coordinating high-level intergovernmental meetings, conferences and events on financing for development at the international level is required. Experience working at the country or regional level is required.
Qualifications
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in economics or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with additional two years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
