Overview
Policy Officer role focused on the implementation of the Ocean Observation initiative, contributing to technical and political files, legal acts, and providing expert advice.
Key Responsibilities
- - Contributing to the drafting of technical and political files linked to the implementation of the Ocean Observation initiative.
- - Contributing to the drafting, negotiation and interpretation of legal acts, such as the upcoming Ocean Act.
- - Providing expert advice on the Ocean observation file.
- - Contributing to drafting reports, briefings and policy documents on a broad range of the ocean observation issues.
Required Experience
- At least three years of education or experience in areas covered by the unit such as marine knowledge, research and innovation.
- Strong scientific and engineering background — deep knowledge in relevant fields such as oceanography, marine biology, physical/chemical ocean processes, marine engineering, or related disciplines (e.g., environmental science, biotechnology).
- Proficiency in data, digital tools, and technologies — high-level skills in data analysis, proficiency with big data from ocean observations (e.g. EMODnet), EU DTO applications, modelling/simulation.
- Field technology knowledge — familiarity with marine instrumentation (e.g., sonar, underwater drones, sensors, monitoring systems) and ability to handle technology readiness levels, from basic research to deployment and scaling innovations.
- Systems thinking and interdisciplinary perspective — ability to integrate across domains (e.g., natural sciences + social sciences + economics + policy) to address complex challenges as mentioned in the Ocean Pact and the upcoming OceanEye.
- Innovation –experience with EU funding mechanisms, co-design, and public-private partnerships, is highly valued.
Qualifications
• Have a level of education which corresponds to completed university studies of at least three years attested by a diploma.
