Overview

Seeking an experienced Climate Peace Security Data Analyst to support UNMISS in Juba, South Sudan. The role focuses on data visualization, analysis, and integration to counter misinformation, disinformation, and hate speech, contributing to peace and stability.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the preparation of data visualizations and infographics for UNMISS leadership and reporting to the UN Security Council.
  • Develop and implement analysis, projections, and forecasting of climate security trends.
  • Collaborate with partners to integrate data collection on climate security and improve data quality.
  • Support UN Agencies and government departments in integrating climate security into their data practices.
  • Lead data preparedness by improving UNMISS’s data catalogue and data models.
  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in data using statistical or data science methods.
  • Develop self-service analytic dashboards and data visualizations.
  • Locate and define new data analysis process improvement opportunities.
  • Develop guidance for political analysis and analytical techniques for climate-related security risks.
Required Experience

At least 2 years of progressively responsible experience in applied analytics, spatial analysis and spatial statistics, GIS and remote sensing, business intelligence, information management, statistics, project management, stakeholder management or related area is required. Experience in using data to inform decisions, strategies and execution is required. Experience with database or programming languages (SQL, Python, R, Javascript) is required. Experience with self-service analytics and data visualization is required. Experience in mapping tools, incl. QGIS or ArcGIS, is required. Experience in layout and publishing tools, such as. Adobe Creative Suite is desirable. Experience in international crisis operations is an advantage. Ability to use Google Earth Engine, Git versioning control systems, Microsoft Azure or equivalent cloud-based technologies and tools such as Azure Synapse, Azure Cognitive Services, Azure ML is an advantage; Experience in geospatial/geostatistical analysis and GIS applications is an advantage.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in mathematics, applied statistics, data science, applied ecology, behavioral science, environmental sciences or a closely related field. A first-level university degree in these specializations, in combination with qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
