Overview

This role serves as Head of the Compact and Regional Conference Section within the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism. The primary purpose is to oversee the Section’s work related to inter-agency coordination, planning and delivery of high-level counter-terrorism conferences, and implementation of extrabudgetary projects.


Key Responsibilities
  • Takes the lead to develop, implement and evaluate assigned programmes/projects, including for the organization of regional and international high-level counter-terrorism conferences.
  • Directs subordinates in programme/project development, implementation, monitoring and assessment.
  • Ensures implementation of gender mainstreaming guidelines.
  • Directs research and programme evaluation.
  • Coordinates policy development.
  • Undertakes survey initiatives; guides design of data collection instruments; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses.
  • Supervises preparation of various written outputs.
  • Directs substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc.
  • Manages outreach activities; designs and conducts training workshops, seminars, etc.
  • Leads field missions.
  • Coordinates activities related to budget and funding.
  • Serves as an effective spokesperson and establishes collaboration and partnerships.
  • Ensures effective utilization, supervision and development of staff.
Required Experience

A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in international cooperation, or inter-agency coordination, preferably in counter-terrorism is required. Experience managing extrabudgetary projects is required. Experience in coordinating high-level events in the area of counter-terrorism is required. Multilateral experience and experience of working with Member States and international and regional organisations is desirable.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in international relations, international law, political science or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
