Overview
The Book Reviews Editor will manage the commissioning, review, and acceptance process for book reviews submitted to the journal, ensuring a diverse, high-quality, and up-to-date range of reviews. The role also involves supporting the Executive Editor in managing peer review for general submissions.
Key Responsibilities
- Select suitable titles for book review, keeping up to date on new publications.
- Identify suitable book reviewers and commission submissions, providing clear instructions.
- Provide feedback to book reviewers, including editing reviews and conveying editorial decisions.
- Keep accurate records and manage the roster of book reviewers.
- Receive unsolicited book reviews and decide on their publication merit.
- Decide which book reviews to include in each issue, in consultation with the Assistant Editor.
- Help attract relevant high-quality research submissions and special issue proposals.
- Support the peer review of articles in their area of expertise.
- Report to the IRE Editorial Board or the Executive Editor when requested.
- Provide assistance remotely, responsible for necessary equipment and software.
- Submit a progress report at the end of each month.
- Present a report to the IRE Editorial Board in November each year.
