Overview

The Migration and Development Officer will support the implementation of livelihoods activities at IOM's protection and transit centres in Algiers.


Key Responsibilities
  • Implement livelihoods, education, and social cohesion activities with migrants.
  • Coordinate livelihoods and education activities for Algerian returnees.
  • Conduct assessments including labor market assessments and supply chain mapping.
  • Support the formalisation of IOM’s collaboration with the Ministry of Vocational Training.
  • Support the establishment of equipped learning labs.
  • Conduct mapping of service providers and consultants for vocational training.
  • Identify and coordinate with potential private companies for job placements.
  • Support selection of project beneficiaries.
  • Support beneficiaries in formulation of business plans.
  • Coordinate with reintegration team for Individual Reintegration Plan (IRP).
  • Coordinate with countries of origin for equivalence of certifications.
  • Support diaspora mapping and engagement initiatives.
  • Support the Reintegration Unit in planning and implementation of community-based reintegration models.
  • Support the facilitation of pathways for labour mobility.
  • Monitor progress and impact of activities.
  • Organize and conduct satisfaction and feedback surveys.
  • Contribute to the review and drafting of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Facilitate job matching initiatives.
  • Monitor targets and achievements and report progress.
  • Organise and support technical meetings.
  • Support coordination with United Nation (UN) agencies.
  • Coordinate capacity-building activities for government officials.
  • Coordinate with Migration Governance Indicators (MGI) consultant.
  • Contribute to the development of South-South Cooperation models.
  • Coordinate with caseworkers and Information Management (IM) unit.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Experience
  • Two years of relevant professional experience with a Master’s degree; or
  • Four years of relevant professional experience with a University degree.
  • Relevant experience in the implementation of social projects/community stabilization though a gender point.
  • Demonstrated experience working with migrants in humanitarian or development contexts.
  • Experience with international organizations is an advantage.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in International Relations, International Development, Political or Social Sciences, Migration Studies, Law, or a related field from an accredited academic institution; or,
  • University degree in the above fields.
Other Details
Languages Required
Fluency in English and French is required (oral and written).
Languages Preferred
Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.
Contract Duration
Special Short Term Graded (Up to 9 months), 6 months with possibility of extension
