Overview
This role supports the integration of gender perspectives into NATO's strategic planning, operations, doctrine, and policy to enhance operational effectiveness and human security.
Key Responsibilities
- Support strategic advice on operationalizing the NATO Women, Peace and Security Agenda.
- Integrate Gender Perspectives in Military Operations (GPMO) as a crosscutting function.
- Contribute to the development of WPS/GPMO doctrine and policies.
- Provide technical support for the implementation of the NATO WPS Policy and Action Plan.
- Strengthen reporting and monitoring mechanisms for sexual exploitation and abuse.
- Lead and guide gender analysis for mission and operation planning.
- Conduct military gender analysis and report results.
- Organize and conduct trainings for senior to mid-level audiences.
- Collect, manage, and disseminate gender-related information.
- Contribute to knowledge-building and capacity-building in synergies between gender and various areas.
- Participate in meetings and provide gender briefs.
- Identify entry points for integrating gender within specific functions.
- Participate in NATO exercises.
- Assist in the management/chairing of conferences and working groups.
- Liaise with Gender Advisors and external stakeholders.
- Support project management, coordination, and administrative tasks.
Required Experience
- Advanced knowledge of gender equality, gender analysis, or the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda.
- Proven ability to analyze complex issues and provide clear, strategic advice.
- Experience working in multi-stakeholder or international environments.
- Experience in applying gender perspectives in a military or peacekeeping setting (desirable).
- Relevant experience to gender at the strategic or operational level, preferably in NATO (desirable).
- Experience in the field and/or military operations (desirable).
Qualifications
- University Degree or equivalent in sociology, behavioural science, political science, public administration, international relations or related discipline and 2 years function related experience, OR Higher Secondary education and completed advanced vocational training leading to a professional qualification or professional accreditation with 4 years post related experience.
- Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Political Science, Law, International Relations or related, and completed vocational training in Gender-related topics (desirable).
