Overview
The Statistician will initiate and coordinate the development of methods for obtaining relevant economic data, ensuring its accuracy and comparability. The role involves planning and conducting analytical work programs in various statistical areas and contributing to capacity building for national statistical development.
Key Responsibilities
- Initiate and coordinate the development of appropriate methods for obtaining relevant economic data.
- Ensure the accuracy, consistency, timeliness, and comparability of the collected data.
- Plan and conduct analytical work programs in national accounts, external sector, balance of payments, sector indicator, and other structural economic statistics and short-term statistics.
- Supervise and contribute to the development of relevant databases, web publishing tools, and other software for the collection, storage, and distribution of statistical data.
- Monitor the updating, maintenance, and expansion of a microdata database of economic surveys.
- Lead and coordinate the International Price Comparison Programme (ICP) with the global office and within ECLAC.
- Coordinate the development and implementation of the ICP Programme with countries in the LAC region.
- Undertake methodological research concerning standards on concepts, definitions, and classifications.
- Follow up the methodological revision process of the national accounts system and give a regular update and other manuals of methods related to macroeconomic statistics.
- Develop new or improved statistical methods and quantitative models for analysis, generation of regional indicators, and specific studies.
- Arrange and coordinate seminars, workshops, expert meetings, and more.
- Coordinate administrative matters associated with the management of the economic statistics unit and projects with other international organisations.
- Organize, manage, and supervise the work of the section assigned.
- Collect and analyze data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Experience
- A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in the collection, compilation, analysis, and dissemination of statistical data or related areas is required.
- Experience in working with the statistic of national accounts, external sector, prices, and other macroeconomics indicators is required.
- Experience using guidelines and international standards on national accounts and price indices is desirable.
- Experience leading regional programmes and/or projects in macroeconomic statistics is desirable.
- Experience in working with macroeconomic statistics of Latin America and the Caribbean countries is desirable.
- Experience in leading inter-regional statistical projects such as the ICP or other statistical projects and work experience in multilateral organisations is desirable.
- Working experience in international organisations is desirable.
- Two years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in statistics, mathematics, economics, sociology or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
