Overview
The Engineering Assistant (Shelter and Infrastructure) will be responsible for the field implementation of Shelter and Infrastructure activities in field project locations in Cambodia, supporting the planning and implementation of Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) and Cash-for-Work (CfW) initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Project Engineer in gathering and providing essential information, engineering data, and technical details for project planning and implementation.
- Provide technical inputs for the planning, design, and construction or rehabilitation of shelters and small-scale community infrastructure.
- Conduct regular field monitoring and supervision of construction/repair/rehabilitation activities.
- Work closely with relevant units to support project identification, technical assessments, and community consultations.
- Contribute to feasibility studies, engineering surveys and engineering design for selected projects.
- Prepare technical reports on shelter and infrastructure activities.
- Carry out regular site inspections to oversee project resource utilization.
- Provide field guidance on social and environmental safeguards.
- Assist in preparation of regular project-related reports.
- Oversee daily project operations to ensure accurate and correct methods, materials selection for construction/repair works.
- Ensure all shelter /infrastructure projects are designed and implemented as per community development, QA/QC operation manuals, and procurement guidelines.
- Provide on-the-job training to carpenters, masons, and skilled workers on appropriate construction techniques.
Required Experience
- School diploma with five years of relevant experience; or, Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or architecture engineering or related fields from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience in technical assessments, preparation of drawings, cost estimates and BoQs, and supervision of shelter and community infrastructure projects.
- Prior experience in coordinating technical activities with programme teams, field staff, communities, contractors, and relevant stakeholders.
- Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations.
- Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
- Experience in providing on-the-job training to carpenters, masons, and skilled laborers, as well as prior hands-on work in construction environments, will be considered a strong advantage.
