Overview
Responsible for implementing youth-focused programming to assist immigrant youth in adjusting to new communities, supporting parents in school activities, and assisting schools in meeting student and family needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement youth programming.
- Coordinate services to refugee children and their parents.
- Orient newly arrived families to the American public-school system and family law issues.
- Conduct pre- and post-tests of family understanding of U.S. school attendance and participation requirements.
- Advocate for children in situations of abuse or neglect and refer to partner agencies.
- Work with parents to advocate for special needs students.
- Improve school personnel’s understanding of refugee families’ cultural and language needs.
- Support student success by encouraging participation in various activities.
- Monitor and track students’ progress.
- Ensure required intake documents are fully completed and service plan updated.
- Participate in program meetings and staff development activities.
- Work as part of a team to provide comprehensive services.
- Comply with all agency policies, procedures, and protocols.
Required Experience
Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience in human services field strongly preferred.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in social work, education, or related field of study is preferred.
