Overview

The Humanitarian Response and Recovery Coordinator will be responsible and accountable for coordinating and managing emergency operations programming within the Country Office.


Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and monitor the implementation of all operational and administrative aspects of emergency related projects.
  • Work in close collaboration to ensure coherent operation of emergency response and recovery/development activities.
  • Ensure adequate IOM’s Response Preparedness by improving coordination and aligning programmatic response preparedness.
  • Keep abreast of humanitarian policies, international standards and best practices, recommending incorporation of cross-cutting issues.
  • Ensure timely preparation and submission of all emergency project reports and coordinate preparation of updates and summaries.
  • Guide and supervise staff responsible for emergency project implementation and coordinate training on emergency response.
  • Identify new opportunities for emergency response and participate in the development of emergency project proposals.
  • Ensure the provision of timely, accurate, standardized and adequate information to stakeholders regarding movements and conditions.
  • Liaise with donor representatives and periodically brief them on current and planned programs.
  • Participate actively in various fora, including inter-agency coordination groups and meetings with stakeholders.
  • Undertake duty travel relating to need assessments, project monitoring, liaison, problem solving, and project development.
Required Experience
  • Master’s degree with five years of relevant professional experience; or University degree with seven years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in project and budget management.
  • Experience working in or on West African region.
  • Experience at international level managing programmes with refugees, asylum seekers, managing offices and/or multi-cultural team.
  • Experience in an international level of direct donor liaison.
  • Regional experience in the direct care of refugees and/or care of people while in immigration administrative detention.
  • Operational or field experience in migration related issues.
  • Extensive experience in public relations, as well as in liaising with governmental and diplomatic authorities and institutional institutions.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Political Science, Social Sciences, Social Work, International Relations, Management or a related field from an accredited academic institution.
  • University degree in the above fields.

Languages Required
• Fluency in English and French is required (oral and written).
Languages Preferred
• Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish) is an advantage.
