Overview

Leads the implementation of education programmes in North Darfur / Sudan, ensuring quality delivery in line with strategies and donor requirements. Manages staff, budgets, and activities, targeting vulnerable populations, and building team capacity.


Key Responsibilities
  • Leads the design, implementation, and quality assurance of education programming.
  • Line manages project staff, oversees budgets, activities, and documentation.
  • Strengthens team capacity through training and mentoring.
  • Coordinates with internal departments and external stakeholders.
  • Maintains high technical standards across education interventions.
  • Supports innovation through market-based approaches and partnership development.
  • Contributes to advocacy efforts and ensures effective reporting and collaboration.
  • Oversees high quality implementation of education (including youth) grants.
  • Develops capacities of a Sudanese project team.
  • Develops relevant capacities and partnership with local education authorities, local partner organisations, and other civil society stakeholders.
  • Leads a local market analysis for educational inputs and services.
  • Supports and collaborates with NRC’s Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Team.
  • Leads narrative reporting on activities delivered.
  • Responsible for attending relevant Education specific meetings and coordination for a, representing NRC.
  • Ensures age and culturally appropriate accountability mechanisms are rolled out and that the highest standards of safeguarding are met.
Required Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in education programming in humanitarian or recovery contexts.
  • At least 2–3 years in a coordination or management role (e.g. Project Manager, Coordinator, Area-level).
  • Demonstrated international experience in humanitarian contexts (outside home country), preferably in complex emergency or conflict-affected settings.
  • Proven experience working in high-hardship, high-risk environments, with clear evidence of operating under security, access, and operational constraints.
  • Strong technical expertise in education programming, including design, implementation, and adaptation in emergency contexts.
  • Demonstrated track record of results delivery, including managing projects at scale and achieving outputs in challenging environments.
  • Experience in start-up or scale-up operations, particularly in refugee or displacement settings.
  • Strong experience in coordination and representation, including engagement with clusters, partners, and local authorities.
  • Solid understanding of donor compliance and reporting.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with ability to manage diverse teams under pressure.
  • Prior experience in Sudan or similar high-complexity contexts is highly desirable.

• Fluency in English (written and verbal).
Languages Preferred
• Working knowledge of Arabic is strongly preferred; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
