Overview

The Stress Counsellor will develop and implement stress prevention and management plans, provide individual and group counselling, and conduct preventative stress management training for UN personnel in Yemen.


Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a stress prevention and management plan.
  • Provide individual and group stress management and critical incident counselling sessions.
  • Plan and facilitate preventative stress management training.
  • Perform ongoing psychosocial needs assessments.
  • Assist in establishing Critical Incident Stress Intervention Cells (CISICs).
  • Identify, address, and follow up on high-stress cases.
  • Advise UN management on stress mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with professionals on psychosocial issues.
  • Coordinate the Peer Support Personnel Network.
  • Liaise with the local Staff Association.
  • Visit UN Offices/Sub Offices to implement training and offer consultations.
  • Coordinate critical incident stress management activities.
  • Maintain confidential records on the CISMS Integrated Data Management (IDM) platform.
  • Provide monthly reports to the Chief Security Adviser.
Required Experience
  • 5 years of professional work experience in mental health, psychosocial support, counselling, staff wellbeing, stress management, or related humanitarian/organizational support services.
  • Experience in dealing with international and national staff and agencies would be required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in addressing cultural sensitivity issues is desirable.
  • Additional certification, training and/or experience in a broad range of related fields, such as alcohol/substance abuse, stress management, psychosomatic disease, behavioral problems, psychosocial programming would be an asset.
Qualifications
  • Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Social Work, Psychiatry (MD) or relevant field is required.
  • A license to practice as a Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist or a Counselling Psychologist by a certified body in country (i.e. psychological council or medical council or equivalent) is required.
