Overview
The Driver/Mechanic is responsible for providing transport services and ensuring the proper maintenance and repair of Save the Children vehicles and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide transport service to SC staff, visitors and other guests.
- Ensure SC vehicle policy is strictly adhered to in vehicle management.
- Maintain cleanliness and good condition of assigned vehicles.
- Implement daily, weekly, and monthly vehicle maintenance checks.
- Monitor fuel consumption and report irregularities.
- Maintain accurate vehicle log sheets.
- Ensure vehicle safety belts are functional and used.
- Follow SC SSO driving safety regulations and traffic rules.
- Report maintenance needs and accidents promptly.
- Ensure vehicles are equipped with First Aid kits.
- Assist with local purchases and cargo loading.
- Determine fleet conditions through inspections and diagnostic tests.
- Request parts or materials for repairs and servicing.
- Perform service and maintenance of generators, motorcycles, and engine systems.
- Provide guidance to operators on vehicle/motorcycle/generator conditions.
- Advise Field Manager and Supply Chain Officer on maintenance issues.
- Oversee work undertaken by 3rd party maintenance providers.
- Familiarize with fleet manuals and technical materials for repairs.
- Update fleet inspection reports and maintenance records.
- Ensure compliance with vehicle repair requirements.
- Perform test drives/riddings.
- Safely use all provided vehicle tools and equipment.
- Encourage health and safety practices.
- Maintain technical skills through up-grading knowledge and training.
- Complete documentation associated with fleet and maintenance.
Required Experience
- Previous experience (2 years) and knowledge of INGO.
- Knowledge of Save the Children systems and ways of working.
Qualifications
- Secondary or Primary School Level
- English Language
- Valid Driving Licence
- Training from recognised Mechanical institute
