Overview

The Associate Liaison Officer assists in liaising with host country stakeholders and multilateral organizations on conflict prevention, mediation, and peacebuilding, focusing on community, economic, and social reintegration.


Key Responsibilities
  • Gathers, selects and analyses information on topics of interest.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of political events affecting reintegration.
  • Monitors national and regional political developments and provides advice.
  • Promotes strategic partnerships and maintains contacts with UN entities and international organizations.
  • Monitors actions taken by intergovernmental groups, UN organizations, and NGOs.
  • Participates in fact-finding missions.
  • Supports the maintenance of databases tracking reintegration progress.
  • Prepares meetings with host country officials.
  • Ensures UNVMC policies and code of conduct are followed.
Required Experience
  • A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security, development management, conflict resolution or related area is required.
  • Experience in monitoring reintegration and socio economic development in a complex field location is desirable.
  • Experience working in support of the Colombia peace process is desirable.
  • Experience working on the reintegration process of former combatants is desirable.
  • Experience in data collection and analysis is desirable.
Qualifications
  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Social Sciences, Political Science, Law, Management or Rural Development, or a related field is required.
  • A first-level university degree with a combination of two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Professional training in rural and urban development, and conflict prevention is desirable.
