Overview
The consultant will support ongoing programmes and projects of the Urban Food Systems team within the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), focusing on SDG 12.3 delivery, food waste prevention, and sustainable food consumption in cities.
Key Responsibilities
- Operationalization of the Food Waste Breakthrough Roadmap for Technical Exchange.
- Day to day activities of the Initiative on Climate Action and Nutrition (I-CAN).
- Fundraising, including initiation of new GEF Food Waste project and development of GEF country projects.
- One Planet Network Sustainable Food Systems Programme activities and events.
- Coordination services for the Food is Never Waste Coalition.
- Development of multi-stakeholder advocacy approach for International Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste.
- Advocacy for other events such as International Day for Zero Waste and Climate and Biodiversity COPs.
- Publication development and launch activities.
- Thought leadership on circular food systems in cities.
- Editing and updating of stopfoodlosswaste.org portal.
- Administrative and reporting processes.
Required Experience
- A minimum of 1 year of previous working experience in research or programme coordination, preferably with a focus on food waste, circularity and cities.
- Prior experience or exposure to working with UN agencies are desirable.
- Demonstrated ability and knowledge in the coordination and implementation of food waste and urban food systems projects, including advocacy and fundraising.
- A good understanding of the global food waste agenda, key stakeholders and global and regional processes is desired.
Qualifications
• University degree (Bachelors or equivalent) in food systems, environmental science or other relevant area.
