Overview
The National Advocacy Analyst will coordinate and implement targeted, evidence-based advocacy activities to increase investments and policy-level commitments for midwifery models of care and maternal and newborn health commodities in Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and implement integrated country advocacy plans for midwifery and MNH commodities.
- Target and track specific financial and policy goals to increase investments and policy reform related to MNH.
- Engage key national stakeholders, including Ministries of Health, Finance, Planning, Education, parliamentarians, and midwifery associations.
- Advocate for and support government-led development, adoption, and funding of a national midwifery strategy or roadmap.
- Coordinate the investment case analysis at the country level.
- Spearhead efforts to integrate maternal and newborn health priorities into national digital health strategies and policies.
- Develop SMART strategies for MNH commodities advocacy.
- Advocate for sustainable MNH commodity financing and affordable MNH healthcare policies.
- Develop and operationalize a Nigerian National Advocacy Strategy and Impact Pathway.
- Conduct stakeholder power and influence mapping.
- Establish or strengthen a National Midwifery Advocacy Coalition.
- Support development of a national midwifery investment case.
- Facilitate high-level policy dialogues.
- Support government partners to develop or strengthen the National Midwifery Strategy/Roadmap.
- Conduct policy analysis on gaps in national commodity policies.
- Develop advocacy briefs on priority MNH commodities.
- Facilitate engagement with regulatory authorities and procurement agencies.
- Conduct a mapping of national digital health training platforms.
- Advocate for integration of Safe Delivery+ digital training.
- Develop a concept note or integration roadmap for national digital health systems.
- Establish partnerships with key professional associations.
- Coordinate advocacy engagement with donors and partners.
- Facilitate multi-stakeholder advocacy dialogues.
- Develop an advocacy results framework and monitoring tracker.
- Produce quarterly advocacy progress reports.
- Document policy wins, commitments, and lessons learned.
Required Experience
- At least two years of relevant experience is required.
- Solid understanding of advocacy work (policy research/analysis/design, diplomacy, strategy formulation, influencing strategy changes, representation at a high level, public communication).
- Experience coordinating and implementing targeted, evidence-based advocacy campaigns, ideally utilizing structured approaches like SMART Advocacy.
- Experience in advocating for sustainable maternal and newborn health (MNH) commodity financing and affordable MNH healthcare policies within the framework of universal health coverage will be an added advantage.
- Experience working with UN agencies, government, NGOs, or youth/civil society groups with demonstrated success in building and sustaining national advocacy coalitions.
- Good organizational, coordination, and time-management skills, and experience in programme support and management.
Qualifications
• Postgraduate degree in public health, international affairs, social sciences, or related fields with specialized knowledge in the field of advocacy, policy, mass communication, journalism, media studies, public relations, or a relevant discipline.
