Overview
The Protection Assistant – Community Based Protection (CBP) is responsible for implementing community-based protection activities in selected areas, focusing on strengthening community networks and providing support for protection analysis and action plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct stakeholder mapping and mapping of existing community-based structures.
- Identify appropriate community-based structures to establish or strengthen Community-Based Protection Networks (CBPNs) or Community-Based Protection Focal Points (CBP-FPs).
- Facilitate and deliver capacity building training for CBPN/FB.
- Provide technical support for the CBPN to conduct community protection analysis, and develop community action plan.
- Ensure adherence to DRC’s Community-Based Protection programming guidance, standards, and protection principles.
- Support CBPNs in implementing community action plans through regular follow-up, mentoring, meetings, and monitoring.
- Utilize appropriate tools dedicated for the community-based protection program implementation.
- Support coordination and collaboration among community representatives, local authorities, and other key stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Community Based Protection Networks (CBPN) and conduct community awareness raising and information dissemination.
- Maintain good relationships with CBPNs and other stakeholders.
- Engage regularly with community-based structures in a respectful, culturally appropriate, and inclusive manner.
- Participate in relevant trainings.
- Adhere to humanitarian principles and protection standards.
- Ensure proper documentation of all activities conducted.
- Support the development and implementation of transition/exit strategies.
- Facilitate linkages and referrals between CBPNs and relevant service providers, authorities, and humanitarian actors.
- Support the effective implementation of project activities and contribute to monthly, quarterly, and donor reports.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of activity reports, CBP tools, attendance records, and other relevant documentation.
- Ensure proper documentation of all complete appropriate tools and reports.
- Provide regular updates and inputs on community-based protection activities, achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
- Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning (MEAL) processes.

Required Experience
- Minimum of one year’s experience in an entry to mid-level position, with experience in the field of humanitarian response and IDP protection working for an international NGO, UN agency or relevant ministry or local authority.
- Experience in community engagement and mobilization.
- Experience working with community-based structures and local stakeholders.
- Stakeholder handling and grass root experience
- Experience working with displaced or conflict affected populations.
- Strong planning, organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Integrity, strong work ethic, and ability to consistently meet deadlines under pressure.
- Full proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Previous experience implementing Community-Based Protection (CBP) activities is an asset.
- Knowledge of protection principles, humanitarian standards, and community-based approaches is also desirable.
- Experience facilitating trainings, awareness-raising sessions, and community discussions.
Qualifications
University degree/Diploma in social sciences, law, social work, international development, or other relevant field from a recognized institution.
