Overview

The Regional Desk Officer (South America) will support effective coordination, communication, and coherence between Headquarters, Regional Offices, and Country Offices. The role provides institutional guidance, sets goals, and maintains global oversight of IOM’s activities.


Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute regional knowledge and expertise to advise on policy and strategic matters.
  • Prepare and coordinate briefings and background information for meetings.
  • Contribute to and coordinate efforts to ensure regional and country issues are reflected in global forums.
  • Support liaison with Permanent Missions, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and international organizations.
  • Support matters related to IOM Governing Bodies.
  • Contribute regional expertise to regional consultative processes and multilateral forums.
  • Serve as a regional resource person for various Offices and Departments.
  • Provide assistance and guidance to Regional Offices and Country Offices.
  • Facilitate cross-regional sharing of experiences, innovation, and good practices.
  • Contribute to strengthening long-term policy capacities within the Region.
  • Support the Director General, Deputy Directors General, and the Organization at international and regional conferences.
Required Experience
  • Seven years of relevant professional experience with a Master's degree, or nine years with a Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in the field of migration issues including operational and field experience, IOM project development, and management.
  • Experience in international relations, migration and in international development matters.
  • Extensive experience in fundraising and public relations, as well as in liaising with governmental and diplomatic authorities and international institutions.
Qualifications

Master’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, Business Administration, Migration Studies, International Relations, Law or a related field from an accredited academic institution; or, Bachelor’s degree in the above with nine years of relevant professional experience.

Languages Required
Fluency in English and Spanish is required (oral and written).
Languages Preferred
Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French and Russian) is an advantage.
Contract Duration
1 year with possibility of extension
