Overview
The Protection Officer will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and quality delivery of protection activities across South Kordofan, including case management, protection monitoring, and community-based protection.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement protection monitoring activities, including data collection through FGDs, KIIs, observation, and incident recording using KoBo Toolbox.
- Conduct systematic outreach to identify individuals at heightened protection risk.
- Provide case management support to vulnerable individuals, including assessments, action planning, referrals, and follow-ups.
- Deliver individual protection assistance (cash or in-kind) to mitigate specific risks.
- Lead the establishment, orientation, and capacity-building of Community-Based Protection Networks (CBPNs).
- Engage and coordinate CBPNs and Community Mobilizers in protection monitoring activities.
- Ensure Community Volunteers (CoVs) and CBPNs remain active and functional.
- Facilitate PSS group sessions.
- Support the designing and delivery of psychoeducational awareness sessions.
- Facilitate timely and appropriate referrals for individuals identified through outreach.
- Conduct information dissemination, awareness and capacity-building activities with communities.
- Produce accurate and timely weekly and monthly reports on all protection activities.
- Ensure proper archiving and filing of all activity reports, case files, and data records.
- Use all tools, forms, SOPs, and professional standards related to protection programming.
- Ensure proper recording of complaints received through the feedback and accountability mechanism.
- Represent DRC and the programme towards a wide range of stakeholders.
- Support the coordination of programme support activities as they relate to logistics, administration or security.
Required Experience
- 1-2 years of professional experience in the field of humanitarian interventions, social sciences, human rights or community development, preferably with an international humanitarian organization.
- Experience in provision of psychosocial support and community-based protection activities.
- Knowledge of the humanitarian context in Sudan and of the issues related to conflict and displacement.
- Experience working with IDPs as well as refugees, particularly from South Sudan is desirable.
Qualifications
University Certificate in the field psychology, social sciences, humanitarian affairs, international law, development or any other related field.
