Overview
This role is responsible for providing strategic vision, policy guidance, and procedural advice on counter-terrorism matters. The position oversees the management of activities within the Section and ensures the timely execution of work programmes and action plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides strategic vision, policy guidance and procedural advice.
- Plans and oversees the management of activities undertaken by the Section.
- Manages, supervises and carries out the work programme of the Section.
- Co-ordinates the work carried out by the Section.
- Provides substantive reviews of the recommendations to effectively implement Security Council resolutions.
- Supervises the preparation of draft assessment reports.
- Manages and supervises follow-up activities with Member States.
- Contributes to reporting to Security Council and the Counter-Terrorism Committee.
- Ensures that the output produced by the Section maintains high-quality standards.
- Prepares input for the work programme of the Assessment and Technical Assistance Office and CTED.
- Carries out programmatic/administrative tasks necessary for the functioning of the Section.
- Supervises the preparation of briefings and special events for the Committee.
- Reviews and provides draft recommendations for CTC's consideration.
- Reviews the preparation of the global implementation survey.
- Supervises and coordinates activities of the Section to partner with other UN entities.
- Liaises and conducts active dialogue with Member States, international/regional and sub-regional organisations, and civil society.
- Serves as CTED focal point with relevant UN entities.
- Represents CTED in international and regional events.
- Recruits staff for Section.
- Manages, guides, develops and trains staff under her/his supervision.
- Fosters teamwork and communication among staff.
- Undertakes other office assignments and tasks as necessary.
Required Experience
A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in law, criminal justice, law enforcement, prosecutorial or international legal cooperation or related areas is required. Experience in management—covering administrative, policy-making or leadership position is required. Experience with counter-terrorism matters is required. Work experience related to Africa is desirable.
Qualifications
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in law, or related field. A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
