Overview

The Directorate-General for Translation (DGT) is seeking a linguistic assistant to provide administrative and linguistic support to the Irish Language Units in Brussels.


Key Responsibilities
  • Provide linguistic assistance to the translation process.
  • Provide general administrative support to the Unit's translation team and management.
  • Work in the Unit's secretariat involving a broad range of administrative and linguistic responsibilities.
Required Experience

Appropriate professional experience of at least three years if secondary education is the highest qualification.

Qualifications
  • A level of post-secondary education attested by a diploma, or
  • A level of secondary education attested by a diploma giving access to post-secondary education.
Other Details
Languages Required
• Have a thorough knowledge (minimum level C1) of one of the 24 official languages of the EU. • AND a satisfactory knowledge (minimum level B2) of a second official language of the EU, to the extent necessary for the performance of the duties. • Good knowledge of English is also required.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of any other EU official language, French in particular, would be an advantage. Knowledge of translation tools would be an advantage.
Contract Duration
Up to 4 years for the first contract, potentially extended once for a maximum of 2 years.

Remuneration
The pay of staff members consists of a basic salary supplemented with specific allowances, including, where applicable, expatriation and family allowances. The recruitment grade will be calculated based on qualifications and professional experience.
