Overview

The Refugee Resettlement intern will assist newly arrived refugees and those facing barriers to connect with services in San Diego, supporting Caseworkers and ongoing projects within the Resettlement Department.


Key Responsibilities
  • Drive and accompany clients to appointments (DMV, health check-ups, Social Security, school enrollments).
  • Assist Caseworkers with airport pickups for arriving refugee families.
  • Assist with setting up apartments for arriving families, including shopping.
  • Take clients to the bank to open accounts or withdraw money.
  • Help clients enroll in services, in-person or remotely.
  • Accompany clients on bus/metro trips to help them learn routes.
  • Develop guides and learning materials for client use (healthcare navigation, food banks, community guides).
  • Organize long-term projects or resources for client livelihoods.
  • Provide office support: prepare case files, write/email on behalf of clients, maintain supplies, welcome guests.
Required Experience
  • 1+ years related work or volunteer experience with a non-profit strongly preferred.
  • A strong interest in working with a diverse, low-income population is required.
Qualifications

Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or master’s program focused on Education, International Relations/Development, Social Work, or related field.
