Overview

The Research Coordinator will facilitate the coordination, management, monitoring, and reporting of a national study on women’s well-being, ensuring implementation in accordance with ethical and safety standards.


Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the key operational hub for the Research Coordination Team, coordinating daily project activities.
  • Provide secretariat and administrative support to the Steering Committee and Technical Advisory Group.
  • Facilitate communication, manage information flow, and synthesize updates for stakeholders.
  • Produce, manage, and archive all research documentation.
  • Monitor the research implementation timeline.
  • Coordinate logistical requirements for interviewer training and fieldwork.
  • Support financial and programmatic tracking of the project budget.
  • Support and coordinate procurement for survey equipment and enumerator recruitment.
  • Ensure support and mentoring to enumerators during training and fieldwork.
  • Support oversight of risk management protocols and coordinate "spot-checks" during data collection.
  • Liaise with provincial authorities, SAFENET actors, and the Ministry of Health.
  • Maintain continuous communication with deployed field teams.
  • Support the coordination of data processing, cleaning, and the Data Interpretation Workshop.
  • Assist in drafting, proofing, and formatting the main technical report, fact sheets, and launch materials.
  • Coordinate logistics for the national launch event and assist with the roll-out of a UNFPA short course.
Required Experience

Minimum of five (5) of increasingly responsible professional experience in project management, research coordination, or social program implementation. Deep familiarity with the Solomon Islands Government context, including established professional working relationships with key ministries (such as MWYCFA and SINSO) and provincial governance structures. Prior experience working within the UN system, with a strong preference for direct familiarity with UNFPA’s programmatic procedures, operational modalities, and mandate. Substantive knowledge and technical understanding of gender-based violence (GBV), violence against women and girls (VAWG), and the ethical/safety sensitivities surrounding population-based social surveys. Superb organizational skills with a proven track record of producing, managing, and maintaining complex project documentation, tracking frameworks, and risk registers. Demonstrated ability to manage communications involving highly sensitive information with diplomacy, political acumen, and absolute confidentiality. Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, with a proven ability to mediate, negotiate, and collaborate effectively with stakeholders across all levels.

Qualifications

Master’s degree (or equivalent professional experience) in Gender Studies, Sociology, Public Health, Demography, Statistics, International Development, Public Administration, or a closely related social science field is required.

The consultant's primary work station will be within the relevant Ministry in addition to a seating space provided by UNFPA within the Honiara office.
Remuneration
Consultancy payment will be on a monthly schedule after submission and acceptance of monthly reports.
