Overview
The Community Health Officer supports the implementation of community-based health activities including Global Health Security, Community Based Surveillance, Immunization, Polio Eradication, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, and Health Promotion. The role aims to strengthen service utilization, disease surveillance, outbreak preparedness, and referral systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct community awareness sessions and health education activities.
- Mobilize community members to access health services.
- Work with community leaders and volunteers to promote healthy behavior.
- Support identification and follow-up of vulnerable groups.
- Distribute health education materials.
- Collect community feedback.
- Support implementation of Community-Based Surveillance (CBS) activities.
- Assist volunteers in identifying and reporting health threats.
- Verify surveillance alerts.
- Maintain surveillance records.
- Support outbreak investigation and emergency response activities.
- Assist with specimen transportation.
- Conduct community mobilization for routine immunization.
- Support vaccination outreach sessions and campaigns.
- Identify and follow up on missed children.
- Promote awareness of vaccine-preventable diseases.
- Support AFP surveillance and polio eradication activities.
- Assist with community mapping and beneficiary tracking.
- Conduct health education sessions on MNCH topics.
- Support community outreach activities for women and children.
- Identify and refer pregnant women, newborns, and sick children.
- Follow up on referred cases.
- Support health facilities during MNCH service delivery.
- Support training and orientation for community volunteers.
- Assist in promoting IPC protocols and waste management.
- Provide guidance and support to volunteers.
- Assist in mentoring and monitoring volunteer performance.
- Maintain records of volunteer activities.
- Collect, compile, and submit activity data and reports.
- Maintain beneficiary records and referral registers.
- Conduct data verification and support data quality improvement.
- Participate in assessments and monitoring visits.
- Support report preparation.
- Coordinate with community leaders, volunteers, and healthcare workers.
- Participate in community and coordination meetings.
- Work closely with IRC teams.
- Report implementation challenges and public health issues.
- Adhere to IRC policies and protocols.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect beneficiary information.
- Promote accountability to affected populations.
- Ensure activities align with humanitarian principles.
- Report safeguarding concerns and security incidents.
- Remain flexible and perform additional duties.
- Support emergency response activities.
Required Experience
Minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience in community health, immunization, disease surveillance, MNCH or humanitarian health programs.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Community Health, Nursing, Midwifery, or related field.
