Overview

Provide legal support in handling disciplinary cases and advise on human resources and administrative matters within the internal justice system.


Key Responsibilities
  • Review and prepare recommendations related to the processing of disciplinary matters.
  • Assist in the preparation of submissions to the United Nations Dispute Tribunal.
  • Assist in representing the Secretary-General in oral proceedings before the Dispute Tribunal.
  • Assist in responding to inquiries and correspondence.
  • Draft, review and advise on legal documents and correspondence.
  • Conduct legal research and provide detailed analysis of cases and jurisprudence.
  • Assist the Section in producing accurate, comprehensive documentation required under the disciplinary process and submissions.
  • Assist in maintaining the Section’s relevant databases and registers (electronic and online).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Experience

A minimum of two years of legal experience, including litigation at the national or international level is required. No experience is required for candidates who have passed the United Nations Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the G to P Examination (G to P). Experience in litigating administrative law matters is desirable. Experience in conducting workplace related investigations or handling disciplinary matters in an international organization is desirable.

Qualifications

An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in law or other related area is required. A first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in combination with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A first-level university degree and no experience will be accepted for candidates who have passed the Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P).
