Overview

The intern will support the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in promoting and protecting the human rights of people on the move and advancing a human rights-based approach to migration governance.


Key Responsibilities
  • Researching and analysing migration and human rights issues.
  • Drafting and summarizing reports, briefing notes, background papers, talking points, meeting notes and other substantive materials.
  • Supporting the preparation of OHCHR inputs to migration-related processes.
  • Preparing for and servicing meetings, consultations, workshops and events.
  • Contributing to communication, advocacy, outreach related to migration and human rights.
  • Assisting with web content, information management and other knowledge-sharing activities.
  • Performing other related duties as requested by the supervisor.
Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme in Law, International relations, Political Science, Development or related subject (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme in Law, International relations, Political Science, Development or related subject (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.

Languages Required
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
Languages Preferred
Working level knowledge of French and/or Spanish, is an advantage.

Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
