Overview

This internship supports the work of the Peacebuilding Impact Hub by assisting with stakeholder coordination, project support, policy development, and outreach activities.


Key Responsibilities
  • Support stakeholder coordination including liaison with national and international counterparts;
  • Assist project leads and relevant colleagues in preparing meeting briefs and related materials, and supports correspondence with relevant counterparts;
  • Monitor actions taken by intergovernmental groups, UN entities, and government and non-governmental organizations related to peacebuilding efforts;
  • Support policy development, the assessments of issues and trends, and the preparation of evaluations or research activities and studies;
  • Support the preparation of written outputs and data-driven analysis — including background papers, reports, and contributions to key policy documents and other knowledge products — to inform planning, decision-making and reporting;
  • Support outreach activities; designs and conducts training workshops, seminars, etc., makes presentations on assigned topics/activities;
  • May perform other duties as required.
Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.

Qualifications
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or ); or
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year period of graduation. Be computer literate in standard software applications, including Excel (advanced knowledge desirable). Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. A field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree programme (bachelor or equivalent). Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.

Languages Required
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of an additional UN language is an asset.
Contract Duration
2 to 6 months
Work Modality
in person and full-time (35 hours per week), on the United Nations premise working arrangement from (New York, USA). This internship is designed to be full-time and in-person but can be adjusted based on the needs of the successful candidate to part-time (20 hours per week) and/or remote.
Remuneration
The United Nations does not provide financial remuneration to interns. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
