Overview

The Geographic Area Officer will support programme implementation within a designated operational area, focusing on relief and reconstruction operations in Chuuk State, Federated States of Micronesia.


Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Emergency Response Coordinator in monitoring operational activities, including logistics, transportation, staff deployment, and security arrangements.
  • Provide technical and operational support to staff, consultants, implementing partners, and service providers.
  • Participate in area-level coordination meetings with various stakeholders.
  • Support the preparation and updating of area-level workplans and distribution plans.
  • Contribute technical inputs to the design and implementation of assessment and programme monitoring tools.
  • Monitor and support the implementation and reporting of all programme activities.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to the Emergency Response Coordinator.
  • Contribute to the development of monitoring and evaluation plans and tools.
  • Support the implementation of IOM and donor visibility requirements.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
Required Experience
  • Two years of relevant professional experience with a Master's degree in Political or Social Sciences, Humanitarian Affairs, Law, International Relations, Disaster Risk Reduction/Disaster Risk Management, or a related field; or, four years of relevant professional experience with a University degree in the same fields.
  • Experience in humanitarian response, complex and post-conflict emergency operations at an international level.
  • Experience in liaison with government authorities, donors, national and international institutions and multi-stakeholders.
  • Experience in programme implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience working in the Pacific Region.
  • Previous experience as Area Manager is an added advantage.
Qualifications

Master’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, Humanitarian Affairs, Law, International Relations, Disaster Risk Reduction/Disaster Risk Management, or a related field from an accredited academic institution; or, University degree in the above fields.

Languages Preferred
Working knowledge of another official UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.
