Overview

The consultant will support the implementation of environmental sustainability and climate action components across the mission's portfolio, including leading the development of safeguard documentation and contributing to resilience initiatives.


Key Responsibilities
  • Support the implementation of environmental sustainability and climate action components.
  • Ensure integration of climate-sensitive and environmentally sustainable approaches.
  • Provide technical support on the security–climate nexus.
  • Review and screen interventions for environmental and social (E&S) risks.
  • Ensure mitigation measures are integrated into technical specifications, tender documents, contractor agreements, and ESMPs.
  • Support the development of SOPs, tools, monitoring indicators, and reporting templates.
  • Conduct awareness raising and capacity strengthening activities.
  • Undertake periodic field visits to monitor compliance and prepare reports.
  • Report environmental and social incidents, recommend corrective actions, and produce Root Cause Analysis.
  • Provide technical inputs to donor reporting on E&S compliance and lessons learned.
  • Coordinate with RO MENA on Climate Change and Migration (CCMD) related activities and with RO Nairobi on KDMECC implementation and reporting.
  • Report relevant information and updates to CAD at HQ level.
  • Support the organization and facilitation of KDMECC related workshops.
  • Contribute to UN Country Team (UNCT) reporting on environment and climate change.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Required Experience
  • Minimum six years of relevant professional experience with a Master's degree; or seven years of relevant professional experience with a University degree.
  • At least five years of senior level experience in strategic evaluation and strategic development in both the humanitarian and development field with international organizations or Governmental institution.
  • Demonstrated skills in knowledge management, innovation, policy development, and strategic planning and advocacy.
  • Work experience within the UN system, particularly in leading and/or coordinating Or high council of environment and natural resources would be a strong advantage.
Qualifications

Master’s degree in environmental Sustainability, Climate Change, Social Sciences, Environment, International Relations, or a related field from an accredited academic institution; or University degree in the above fields.
