Overview
This role focuses on development support and project implementation, specifically to strengthen climate resilience, enhance rural livelihoods, and protect vulnerable arid ecosystems by analyzing climate risks and their impacts on agriculture.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect and synthesize climate data (historical and future) for agricultural sector trends and projections.
- Collect data and study agricultural production, trends, and impacts of climate change.
- Review information on climate indicators, extremes, and impacts on agriculture.
- Collect and synthesize biophysical and socio-economic data and vulnerability assessments.
- Review and collect data on regional climate risks.
- Collect and analyze loss and damage data related to climate hazards.
- Review weather-informed advisories for the agricultural sector.
- Advise and support the integration of climate risk considerations in the Funding proposal.
- Develop crop suitability maps assessing climate change impacts using analytical frameworks.
Required Experience
- At least five (5) years of relevant experience in climate change adaptation, with demonstrated experience in agrometeorology, climate risk analysis, and/or climate impacts on agriculture, water resources, or food systems.
- Experience working with UN agencies is an advantage.
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO in climate science, environmental sciences, agricultural climatology, natural resource management, or a related field relevant to the assignment.
- Consultants with a bachelor's degree need two additional years of relevant professional experience.
