Overview
Assists with the implementation of security operations and management of safety and security for UN personnel in the Area of Responsibility (AoR).
Key Responsibilities
- Assists the Security Adviser in collecting, updating and communicating information regarding the security situation.
- Liaises and coordinates with host government security organizations and personnel.
- Helps to assess the security situation and gather security information.
- Communicates information on security issues to UN agency heads and provides security advice.
- Maintains regular contacts with Security Focal Points of UN agencies.
- May be requested to provide technical assistance at Area/Security Management Team meetings.
- Assists in maintaining and preparing the UN Security Plan.
- Supports actions during the implementation of the Security Plan.
- Assists with the monitoring of security measures implementation.
- Assists in reporting security incidents and preparing security reports.
- Provides support in organizing and conducting training courses on security awareness and preparedness.
- Conducts security briefings.
- Provides support in conducting security evaluations and advice on Residential Security Measures.
- Establishes and maintains warden system.
- Administers a pass and ID system.
- Maintains liaison with commercial companies used for UN security.
- Provides general administrative assistance, including maintaining correspondence files and a database on contact details of host country security authorities.
- Arranges appointments, receives visitors, places and screens telephone calls, and takes minutes.
Required Experience
Seven (7) years of work experience in security, risk or disaster or emergency areas with security responsibilities, in the public or private service areas, such as national security, military or police, or in a corporate environment is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in the use of Microsoft applications i.e. Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint is required. Prior experience with the UN system or an international NGO is desirable. Experience in the use of radio communications systems is desirable.
Qualifications
High school Diploma or equivalent is required.
