Data Engineer

Overview

The role of Data Engineer involves deploying, operating, and evolving data infrastructure and tooling to enable efficient, secure, and reliable data processing across various environments. The position aims to support NATO's Digital Endeavour by establishing the Agency’s technical vision and IT engineering strategy.

Key Responsibilities

• Deploy, configure and maintain data platform components on containerized infrastructure using GitOps practices, across cloud-connected and airgapped/disconnected environments.
• Apply DataOps practices to automate, monitor and continuously improve data pipelines, and provide basic MLOps support.
• Oversee, coordinate, and provide guidance to industry partners.
• Advise NATO Enterprise and Alliance partners on data architectural frameworks.
• Take ownership of platform and architectural challenges, identifying opportunities for improvement and driving initiatives.

Required Experience

At least 2 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in a related discipline, or at least 6 years of extensive and progressive expertise in duties related to the function of the post in the absence of a university degree. Experience in building and integrating data engineering components, data warehousing, ETL/ELT processes, data governance, planning and maintaining data lakes and pipelines, DataOps principles, deploying and operating data platform tooling in cloud and/or airgapped environments, containerization and orchestration, major cloud platforms, software development practices, and data security best practices.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree from a nationally recognized/certified university in a related discipline (such as Computer Science or Data Science and Engineering).
