Overview
The Senior Officer – Nature-based Solutions will support the implementation of the ECHO funded SURAKKHA project by integrating ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction and Anticipatory Action approaches in the Chattogram Hill Tracts.
Key Responsibilities
- Support participatory hazard and ecosystem mapping with Local Govt. Institution (LGIs), communities, and technical partners to identify and validate priority NbS sites.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of interventions including slope stabilization, reforestation/afforestation, watershed and drainage management, soil erosion control, and agroforestry-based green belts.
- Facilitate coordination with LGIs, Disaster Management Committees (DMCs), government agencies, and partners to ensure inclusive planning, community ownership, and the integration of indigenous and local knowledge.
- Support capacity strengthening for NbS implementation, maintenance, monitoring, and replication.
- Support in partner coordination and management, budget tracking, financial monitoring, basic financial management, and day-to-day logistical coordination.
- Contribute to documentation, learning, and donor reporting, ensuring evidence generation on NbS effectiveness in reducing disaster risks and strengthening community resilience.
- Support organizational priorities, including reporting through PRIME and emergency response activities, as required.
Required Experience
- At least 4 years of relevant professional experience in disaster risk reduction, climate resilience, environmental management, humanitarian programming, or related fields.
- Experience in implementing Nature-based Solutions (NbS), ecosystem-based DRR (Eco-DRR), watershed management, forestry, ecosystem restoration, or other environmental and resilience programmes will be considered a strong advantage.
- Basic understanding of budget tracking, project coordination, and operational support.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Disaster Management/Environmental Science/Development Studies/ Urban and regional planning/Geography/Social Sciences, or in a related field.
- Professional certification in Humanitarian Programming/Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)/Climate Change Adaptation or Anticipatory Action will be considered an added advantage.
