Overview

The National Security Officer will provide expert support to all security-related aspects of the North East Region offices’ operations and activities, and assist in security risk management.


Key Responsibilities
  • Liaise, coordinate and maintain networks with security entities.
  • Monitor and analyze the security situation and communicate significant events.
  • Gather and verify security information.
  • Support the development and implementation of security plans, contingency and emergency response plans, and SOPs.
  • Provide support in the conduct of Security Risk Management (SRM).
  • Acquire operational understanding of IOM programmes and contribute to drafting Security Risk Assessments.
  • Conduct physical surveys of offices, vehicles, and staff residences.
  • Support the management of the NEA Offices’ Warden system.
  • Ensure timely dissemination of safety and security information.
  • Monitor security incidents affecting IOM personnel, premises, assets, and operational activities.
  • Prepare security reports.
  • Provide security briefings and coordinate travel security requirements.
  • Supervise Field Security Associates.
  • Implement and manage security access control procedures.
  • Provide security policy guidance and monitor compliance.
  • Attend the area security cell and participate in the ASMT.
  • Provide support in the conduct and follow-up of investigations and incidents.
  • Respond to complex security queries and provide security-related advice.
  • Liaise with the RSO for technical guidance and supervision in the absence of the FSO.
  • Act as OIC and guide/support IOM Field Security Associates in the absence of the FSO.
Required Experience
  • Two years of relevant professional experience with a university degree; or a Masters degree in Security, Social Sciences, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Law, International Relations or a related field.
  • Relevant professional experience in the humanitarian, public, private or corporate sector is desirable.
  • Experience in security programmes, risk assessments, or analysis is desirable.
  • Experience in operational security risk management, investigation, and physical security is desirable.
  • UNDSS certification to any of the following: Security Certification Programme (SCP), Security Analysis Practice and Process (SAPP), Trainer and Development and Certification Course (TDC), and Safe and Secure Approaches in Field Environments (SSAFE) is desirable.
Qualifications

University degree in Security, Social Sciences, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Law, Interntional Relations or a related field from accredited academic institutions, with two years of relevant professional experience; or, Masters degree in the above.

Working knowledge of any UN official language is an advantage.
