Overview

The Health & Nutrition Coordinator will contribute to improving the overall Health & Nutrition of targeted beneficiaries in Syria by providing quality comprehensive primary health care services. The role involves collaborating with partners to meet patient needs, promote healthy behaviors, strengthen health systems, and improve access to basic health and nutrition services.


Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and provide technical support to the Health and Nutrition emergency programme.
  • Manage, develop, and review detailed implementation plans for health and nutrition projects.
  • Review partners’ narrative and financial reports.
  • Lead coordination and preparation of quality donor reports.
  • Manage and oversee the implementation of agreed plans for health & Nutrition projects with partners.
  • Work closely with Emergency programme teams to ensure an integrated programme approach.
  • Act as budget holder for health & nutrition grants, reviewing and revising budgets, and monitoring expenditure.
  • Provide supervision, guidance, and direction to Health and Nutrition staff in partner organizations.
  • Provide training, capacity building, and technical support to Health & Nutrition staff and relevant ministry/partners.
  • Ensure Save the Children Child’s Protection and Safeguarding Children policies are understood and implemented.
  • Manage control and usage of Save the Children assets and funds.
  • Engage with key Government Agencies, Health ministry, and other stakeholders.
  • Represent Save the Children in various health & nutrition related fora, meetings, and workshops.
  • Ensure regular and effective communications with Health Technical Advisors and other sectors within the organization.
  • Lead on multi-sectoral / health and nutrition technical assessments.
  • Develop Health/Nutrition sector response plans and master budgets.
  • Prepare and oversee Health/Nutrition programme implementation.
  • Identify Health/Nutrition staffing needs and ensure rapid recruitment, induction, and training of new staff.
  • Identify Health/Nutrition programme supplies needs and coordinate with the logistics team.
  • Implement accountability activities, ensuring feedback from stakeholders is considered.
  • Ensure minimum standards of humanitarian relief assistance are maintained.
  • Identify learning and training opportunities for staff and partners.
  • Perform any other duty deemed necessary by the Line Manager.
Required Experience
  • At least five years of relevant experience preferably in primary health care, preventive and curative service delivery in the context of emergencies.
  • Substantial experience of developing working relations with government, UN agencies, INGO partners, community stakeholders, and beneficiaries.
  • Demonstrate skills in resource and staff management/development and the implementation of appropriate policies, procedures, and systems.
Qualifications

Qualified Health professional (MD, (MPH preference) with medical background) medicine, pharmacy, public health, or other relevant health discipline.

Languages Required
Fluency in written and spoken English. Excellent Arabic and English – writing and speaking.
Languages Preferred
An area of particular expertise within humanitarian health & Nutrition. Experience of working on Health/nutrition programmes in emergencies and epidemic outbreaks.
Contract Duration
12 months renewable
