Overview

Supports the SRSG in the implementation of the Mission's mandate with emphasis on reporting and analytical requirements. Coordinates the preparation of Security Council reporting and senior-level outputs.


Key Responsibilities
  • Supports the SRSG in the implementation of the Mission's mandate.
  • Coordinates the preparation of Security Council reporting and senior-level outputs.
  • Ensures quality control and timeliness of submissions to Headquarters and the Security Council.
  • Advises the SRSG on matters requiring personal attention.
  • Establishes and maintains tracking mechanisms to monitor decisions and follow-up actions.
  • Drafts and reviews correspondence and official documentation.
  • Maintains liaison and fosters effective working relationships with national authorities, political actors, civil society organizations, religious actors, and international partners.
  • Organizes and supports high level meetings and engagements led by the SRSG.
  • Coordinates actions related to mission transition phase.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
Required Experience

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in political affairs, international relations, diplomacy, peace and security, conflict resolution, or related area is required. Experience in drafting analytical reports, briefing notes, and policy papers for senior leadership is required. Experience in coordinating inputs across multiple substantive components or stakeholders and producing integrated analytical outputs is required. Experience in preparing or contributing to reports of the Secretary-General and/or submissions to the Security Council or other intergovernmental bodies is desirable. Experience in handling sensitive political issues and producing outputs under tight deadlines is desirable. Experience working in or in support of a field operation of the United Nations Common System or a comparable international organization or non-governmental organization in a conflict or post-conflict setting is desirable.

Qualifications

An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Political Science, Management or Development, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
