Overview

The Young Professional Officer (Aquatic Value Chain) role supports the delivery of assigned projects, products, and services related to sustainable aquaculture value chain development.


Key Responsibilities
  • Analyses technical, social, economic, environmental, and technology information, data, and/or statistics.
  • Maintains records and updates databases and web pages.
  • Provides technical support to various projects.
  • Collaborates in the development of training tools and materials and the organization of workshops/seminars.
  • Participates in the organization and follow-up of meetings, consultations, and conferences.
  • Supports the formulation, interpretation, and implementation of policy guidelines and best practices for sustainable aquaculture value chains development.
  • Supports meetings, expert workshops, and consultations with government and non-governmental representatives.
  • Contributes to the development of project proposals for Blue Transformation.
  • Provides technical support and advisory services to the implementation of aquaculture value chain projects.
  • Contributes to establishing and maintaining online knowledge platforms and developing communication material.
  • Contributes to the organization of technical workshops/consultations for aquaculture value chains-related indicators.
  • Supports the development and dissemination of knowledge products.
  • Supports the design and implementation of capacity development interventions.
  • Provides support to pilot country processes of sustainable aquaculture value chains and complementary strategies.
  • Supports gathering and analysing information and data on global fish trade and markets.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Required Experience

One year of relevant experience in the aquaculture, aquatic food value chains, or trade and market sector.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in fisheries, aquaculture, food sciences, biology, management or related disciplines.

Other Details
Languages Required
Working knowledge (proficiency - level C) of English and intermediate knowledge (intermediate proficiency - level B) of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish).
Languages Preferred
Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions is desirable.
Contract Duration
Fixed-term: two years with possibility of extension
