Overview

Support the implementation of the Energy for Growth in Africa programme, with a specific focus on the Italy for Mission Innovation (I4MI) workstream. The role involves shaping and operationalizing this workstream, working closely with UNDP Country Offices and partners.


Key Responsibilities
  • Identify clean energy projects in target countries, focusing on innovative, infrastructure-based pilot projects.
  • Support the design and preparation of pilot projects to reduce knowledge gaps and demonstrate viability of low-carbon technologies.
  • Draft concept notes, project documents, and funding proposals.
  • Coordinate with UNDP Country Offices and national/international stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support for energy projects across the development cycle.
  • Strengthen technical and institutional capacity for innovative clean energy projects.
  • Deliver technical advice and support for Energy for Growth in Africa and I4MI initiatives.
  • Identify and operationalize innovative delivery mechanisms for the I4MI workstream.
  • Ensure timely and high-quality reporting in line with programme requirements.
  • Develop and maintain monitoring tools and systems.
  • Capture lessons learned, good practices, and evidence of impact.
Required Experience

Minimum of five (5) years (with master’s degree) or 7 years (with bachelor’s degree) of progressively responsible professional experience in the design, structuring, and implementation of projects and programmes in the renewable energy sector, with demonstrated hands-on experience in technical aspects of energy systems, project execution, and delivery across the project lifecycle. Demonstrated experience in the identification, design, and structuring of projects and programmes in the renewable energy sector, including the development and management of project pipelines. Proven experience in supporting project start-up phases, including feasibility analysis, stakeholder coordination, and preparation of implementation and operational frameworks. Strong experience in hands-on delivery and management of energy projects and programmes. Demonstrated field experience and hands-on engagement with country-level stakeholders.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Renewable Energy, Climate Change, International Development, Energy Policy, Engineering, or other related fields is required, or A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in the areas mentioned above in combination with an additional 2 years of qualifying experience.
