Overview
The role of Environmental Management Expert involves providing technical, operational, and coordination support to UNEP's work in Latin America and the Caribbean, focusing on environmental management, waste management, circular economy, and sustainable food systems initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to UNEP's activities in the Southern Cone by identifying opportunities for environmental initiatives and projects, providing technical advice, and supporting policy design, joint initiatives, and events.
- Provide technical and operational guidance for the regional implementation of waste management and food systems portfolios, assisting in initiatives to minimize waste effects and promoting circularity.
- Contribute to the organization of stakeholder workshops and facilitate UNEP's participation in the LAC Foodsystems Task Force.
- Deliver bimonthly integrated reports documenting environmental project pipelines, strategic partnerships, technical advisory support, policy recommendations, institutional strengthening efforts, and capacity-building actions.
- Produce reports on technical and coordination support provided to the Dumpsite Closing Coalition, the LAC University Consortium on Sustainable Waste Management, and UNEP’s Zero Waste and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) initiatives.
- Provide technical guidance for the implementation of the project "Powering the Dominican Republic’s Food Systems Transformation: The scalable Model of Yaquel del Sur Basin".
Required Experience
- At least five (5) years of professional experience in areas related to environmental science, natural resources management, waste management and capacity building is required.
- Experience with projects and initiatives related to waste management and capacity building is desired.
- Working experience in the Latin America and the Caribbean region and knowledge of regional and national stakeholders is desired.
- Knowledge of the United Nations System is an advantage.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in environmental management, natural resources, science, engineering, or related fields is required.
- Master's degree in environmental management, natural resources, science, engineering, or related fields is required.
- Additional studies or specific training on environmental affairs, waste management, and environmental education are an asset.
