Overview
The light vehicles driver transports people and goods safely and on time, adhering to ICRC rules and national traffic laws.
Key Responsibilities
- Transports people and/or goods, including for weekend and evening duties.
- Delivers mail or goods as requested.
- Provides assistance to passengers as needed.
- Informs radio room about departure and return times.
- Ensures vehicle is parked in a safe area.
- Is aware of and reacts to the current security situation.
- Respects ICRC internal security rules and traffic regulations.
- Drives only ICRC goods and personnel in ICRC vehicles unless instructed otherwise.
- Avoids using mobile phones while driving and respects radio communication procedures.
- Is aware of rules concerning correct use of vehicles, and carriage of passengers and goods.
- Ensures vehicles are refueled in time.
- Drives in a manner that minimizes fuel consumption and maintains the vehicle in good condition.
- Fills in refueling data in logbooks and fuel control sheets.
- Hands over fuel bills to the dispatcher at the end of the trip.
- Confirms quantity of goods during loading and unloading corresponds with documentation.
- Is responsible for goods documentation.
- Presents documentation to the receiver for signature at unloading and returns it to the dispatcher.
- Assists with loading and unloading of the vehicle.
- Drives in a safe, responsible, and accident-free manner.
- Adapts driving to weather and road conditions.
- Reports road conditions, eventual problems, and vehicle accidents within 24 hours.
- Advises, trains, and monitors carpool drivers on their daily duties.
- Ensures all vehicles are clean and in good technical condition.
- Assists the Car Dispatcher in daily duties when required.
- Checks the mechanical condition of the vehicle before the trip.
- Checks vehicle equipment and body condition through checking lists on each handover and once a week.
- Is able to change a tire, filters, or bulb on the road.
- Maintains the vehicle interior clean at all times.
- Is responsible for equipment, tools, chains, and spare tires in the vehicles and reports any changes.
- Informs Dispatcher or Vehicle Fleet Manager about service, maintenance, and other possible repairs needed in advance and fills in technical reports.
- Informs Dispatcher or VFM of left personal belongings inside ICRC vehicles.
- Monitors cabin instruments during trips.
- Assists driver colleagues in case of problems.
- Replaces other drivers during their absence.
- Be aware of the delegation’s objectives and activities.
- Understands the three components of the Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement.
- Performs any other activities upon request of immediate supervisor.
- Respects and observes the staff regulations of the ICRC.
- May be asked to perform duties and tasks not covered in this job description and to provide support to other departments.
- Takes responsibility for their own professional learning and development.
- Follows up on all work-related messages and correspondence.
Required Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with international organizations or NGOs.
- Experience in general vehicle mechanics, with the ability to perform basic vehicle inspections and minor maintenance.
Qualifications
- Valid commercial driving license (minimum requirement).
- Valid driving license with a good driving record.
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
- Commitment to road safety regulations and organizational policies.
