Overview

The Director leads the Division of Nuclear Installation Safety, ensuring programmatic responses to Member States' priorities and the global nuclear safety and security framework. The role involves providing strategic direction, managing resources, and promoting international cooperation in nuclear installation safety.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Division of Nuclear Installation Safety, providing direction and guidance to staff, and establishing and monitoring standards of excellence in performance.
  • Direct the development of and coordinate the assistance provided for programmes on nuclear installation safety in line with the expressed needs of Member States and a results-based approach.
  • Lead the IAEA's activities related to supporting and further strengthening the global nuclear safety and security framework in assigned technical areas.
  • Promote peer reviews and advisory services in an integrated and harmonized manner.
  • Represent the IAEA and its professional standing at international conferences and forums and liaise with senior level representatives in relevant institutions and other international organizations.
  • Strengthen IAEA cooperation with other international organizations and professional associations through synergetic activities.
  • Lead the Division's contribution to the design and implementation of the Departmental capacity building strategy and policies for safety and security activities.
Required Experience

Minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience, at least five of which at the senior management or executive level in a national and/or international environment, with experience in a broad spectrum of nuclear safety related management areas. Demonstrated experience in human and financial resource management, programme planning and organizational development. Proven track record of excellent leadership. Experience in international cooperation in the area of nuclear installation safety an asset.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree in nuclear science, nuclear engineering or other closely related field. First level university degree in nuclear science, nuclear engineering or other closely related field plus two years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of the Advanced university degree.

Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration
Tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $117953 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 66408*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; Other benefits include 6 weeks' annual leave, home leave travel, pension plan and health insurance.
