The Food Irradiation Specialist coordinates support and research, provides technical and advisory services, and disseminates information related to the application of food irradiation for food quality, safety, and sanitary/phytosanitary purposes, as well as the development of related standards and guidelines.
At least seven years of work experience in food irradiation, including extensive international experience, especially in developing countries. Experience in research and technology transfer related to irradiation applications (electron beams, gamma, X-rays). Experience in applying measurements to meet sanitary and phytosanitary requirements for food and agricultural commodities, including risk assessment procedures. Experience in food irradiation applications, including facilities, public acceptance, food microbiology, and international standards (Codex Alimentarius, IPPC). Experience in formulating and delivering outcome-oriented projects, including financial and human resources. Familiarity with information technology and web-based resources. Familiarity with detection tests for irradiated food is an asset.
Master's Degree in food irradiation, food science and technology, food chemistry, food microbiology, plant pathology, or a related field. A doctorate degree would be an asset.
