Overview

The Equipment Specialist leads complex projects for the development and evaluation of safeguards equipment and technologies to ensure the IAEA has access to the latest tools needed to fulfill its safeguards mandate.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and/or participate substantively in the planning, development, and authorization of new safeguards equipment and technologies.
  • Evaluate commercial off-the-shelf and custom-designed products for compatibility for safeguards use.
  • Provide specialized expertise for the procurement, implementation and support of current and new equipment.
  • Prepare quality controlled technical documents, including technology evaluation reports, technical and security specifications, testing procedures and technical project roadmaps.
  • Liaise with R&D specialists in Member States regarding technologies and equipment under development.
  • Organize and lead vulnerability reviews of IAEA equipment systems and elaborate solutions for mitigation.
  • Provide expert support, technical guidance and advice to members of SGTS teams and Operations Divisions.
  • Develop and provide training related to new equipment and technologies as needed.
Required Experience
  • Minimum of seven years of relevant working experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Safeguards Containment and Surveillance
  • Electrical Engineering
  • General Engineering (computer aided design tools, modelling designs for various extreme conditions, rapid prototyping, fabrication of mechanical and/or electrical components, visual technologies and/or image processing software packages)
  • Information Security
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Safeguards Quality Management
  • Experience in the production of technical documentation necessary to support end-users in the use of new systems.
  • Experience working in design, development, evaluation, and/or implementation in one or more of the following areas: Emerging technologies; Systems requiring security-related considerations; Containment/surveillance systems; Nuclear instrumentation.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, nuclear science, physics, applied physics or a similar technical area.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field with two years of additional relevant working experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree.

Excellent oral and written command of English.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration
Tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $86027 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 44820*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; Other benefits include 6 weeks' annual leave, home leave travel, pension plan and health insurance.
