Overview
The Scientist (GICR Hub Officer) role supports the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in promoting international collaboration in cancer research, specifically by coordinating the IARC Regional Hub for Cancer Registration in Latin America and contributing to scientific production.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the activities of the IARC Regional Hub for Cancer Registration in Latin America.
- Provide technical advice, support, and collaboration to cancer registries and stakeholders.
- Evaluate cancer registry operations and impact through site visits and status reports.
- Collaborate with cancer registries on data dissemination and research articles.
- Represent IARC/GICR at meetings and prepare technical reports.
- Identify and assess progress within Regional Hubs, taking corrective action.
- Contribute to educational activities, including training and technical support.
- Conduct international descriptive epidemiologic studies using cancer registry data.
- Contribute to data collection, quality improvement, and statistical analyses.
- Prepare and write scientific manuscripts, articles, and reports.
- Contribute to the development and writing of grant applications.
- Contribute to other specific CSU projects regarding global indicators and cancer registration.
- Draft reports, guidelines, policy briefs, and public health documents.
Required Experience
- At least five years of professional experience in cancer registration and cancer epidemiological research.
- Proven leadership and understanding of challenges in Low- and Middle- Income Countries (LMICs) settings.
- Supervisory experience (desirable).
- Experience in coordinating multi-partner studies (desirable).
Qualifications
• PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics or in a similar field of research.
