Overview
Internship opportunity supporting UNDP Country Offices with green energy solutions, focusing on civil and structural engineering aspects of renewable energy installations.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate in data collection for green energy solutions in Country Offices.
- Support assessment of civil works and structures for renewable energy installations.
- Participate in drafting business cases for renewable energy solutions (solar PV, energy efficiency, e-mobility).
- Support provision of guidance and remote technical assistance on energy efficiency solutions.
- Assist in installation of IoT energy sensors.
- Support procurement of green energy solution equipment.
- Support daily monitoring and operations of installed solar PV and e-mobility systems.
- Play the role of rapporteur in assigned meetings.
- Contribute to unit documentation for process improvement.
- Assist project manager in remote management of renewable energy solution installations.
Required Experience
- A degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field is required.
- Applicants whose primary background is in other engineering disciplines will not be considered suitable unless combined with a Civil/Structural Engineering degree.
- Technical knowledge of structural analysis for foundation design and steel structures is a strong advantage.
- Technical knowledge of the main renewable energy technologies is a strong advantage.
- Knowledge of structural design software is an advantage (e.g. ETABS, Staad.Pro, Autodesk Robot).
- Experience/Knowledge in sizing Hybrid PV systems (with diesel generator) is a strong advantage.
- Experience/Knowledge in energy efficiency and/or electric vehicles is a strong advantage.
- Knowledge of software tools for hybrid renewable energy systems is an advantage.
- Knowledge of HOMER and PV*Sol is an advantage.
- Knowledge and a proficient user of Microsoft Office productivity tools is required.
- Knowledge or experience with specific Office 365 tools is a strong advantage.
- SharePoint knowledge, preferably SharePoint Online is an advantage.
- Working with gathering, consolidating, and analysing either quantitative and qualitative data from databases and reports is an advantage.
- Demonstrated experience presenting work to both technical and non-technical is an advantage.
- Demonstrated professional or academic experience in any of the UNDP Member States is an advantage.
Qualifications
- Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);
- Have recently graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
- Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.
