Overview

The Regional Ombudsman mediates and facilitates conflict resolution through informal means related to staff issues and disputes. The role monitors trends for early detection of institutional issues and advises on remedial and preventive actions.


Key Responsibilities
  • Hear and advise staff members on work-related concerns.
  • Assist parties to reach a fair solution through fact-finding, mediation, and discussion.
  • Intervene where deemed necessary to ensure due process, justice, and fairness.
  • Provide information, guidance, and referral as appropriate.
  • Identify systemic issues, trends, and concerns without breaching confidentiality.
  • Advise the Regional Director and stakeholders on corrective and preventive action.
  • Act as a resource for best practices in Ombudsman functions.
  • Maintain an understanding of professional developments in the area of work.
  • Ensure regular evaluation of the impact of the Ombudsman's function.
  • Develop an annual work plan aligned with objectives and stakeholder concerns.
  • Provide advice on the Organization's formal dispute resolution mechanisms.
Required Experience
  • At least 10 years of relevant work experience.
  • At least 5 years as a mediator/ombudsman/conflict resolution manager/leader or expert in conflict resolution/mediation management.
  • At least 5 years of experience in managing projects and staff, including planning activities.
  • Experience in organizing and conducting staff training and awareness-raising events in conflict resolution and mediation management.
  • Desirable: Previous experience of management in an international, intergovernmental organization, government, or national public institution.
Qualifications
  • Essential: Master's degree in management, administration, social science, law, organizational development, or related area.
  • Desirable: Master's degree in public health.
  • Desirable: Accreditation as a Certified Organizational Ombudsman Practitioner (CO-OP) by the International Ombudsman Association (IOA).
  • Desirable: Accreditation as a certified mediator.
  • Desirable: Training and/or equivalent experience in alternative dispute resolution or mediation.

• Annual base salary starting at USD 103,165. • Variable post adjustment amounting to USD 2158 per month. • 30 days of annual leave. • Allowances for dependent family members. • Home leave. • Education grant for dependent children.
