Overview
The Security Information and Operations Center Assistant supports the safety and security of personnel, premises, assets, and operations for the United Nations Security Management System by managing information relevant to security.
Key Responsibilities
- Assists in monitoring, collecting, and collating security information from various resources.
- Helps to assess security situations and ensures adequate gathering and verification of security information.
- Maintains an Incidents Database updated on a daily basis.
- Prepares and delivers security threat information/security information of significance in various briefing and reporting formats.
- Provides historical data and contexts of threat actors, TTPs, geography, political, economy, cultural and religious backgrounds.
- Performs research, data and comparative analysis of historical trends, pattern and/or indicators of Critical/Major Incidents or Events.
- Develops STIs, Alerts, Warnings and Advisories of Critical/Major Incidents or Events.
- Communicates information on security issues and conducts security briefings.
- Liaises and coordinates with the host government security organizations and/or personnel.
- Maintains routine products, reports and confidential files.
- Assists in updating Area SRMs/Security Plans and supports implementation actions.
Required Experience
- Minimum of 5 years (with high school diploma) or 2 years (with bachelor’s degree) of work experience in SIOC setups or analysis within the UN system, an international organization, or an international NGO is required
- Experience in maintaining security incident databases
- Experience in security threat information processing including security risk analysis and development of recommendations
- Experience in developing visual aids such as maps, charts etc. in support of the information analysis outcomes
- Experience in the use of data analysis tool, computers, office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc), database packages, Power BI and other computer based, web and smartphone applications.
- Previous experience in information management with an army or police security operations center is desirable.
- Prior relevant working experience within the UN system, an international organization or an international NGO is desirable.
Qualifications
- Secondary education is required.
- A university degree in Security Management, Business Administration or equivalent field will be given due consideration, but it is not a requirement.
