Overview

The Section Head (Radiation Safety and Monitoring) is responsible for managing and leading the Radiation Safety and Monitoring Section, initiating, developing, and implementing the IAEA's policy and programme on radiation protection, patient and worker radiological protection, and the IAEA's Radiation Safety Technical Services.


Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, initiate, develop, implement, coordinate and supervise the activities of the Section.
  • Provide technical and managerial leadership for the development, review and publication process for the Section and associated programme.
  • Analyse information and identify strategies to enhance the IAEA's radiation safety programme.
  • Develop sustainable strategies for mandatory Radiation Safety Technical Services.
  • Lead IAEA activities related to supporting and strengthening Member States' activities in assigned technical areas.
  • Lead and contribute to divisional, departmental, and Agency-wide initiatives to enhance coherence, alignment, and synergy.
Required Experience

Minimum of 10 years of experience in radiation safety, of which at least eight should have been at a managerial level and concerned with standard setting. Broad experience in the field with proven experience in managing professional and support staff. Extensive experience of work at the international level, both in the development and in the application of safety standards. Demonstrated experience in multilateral environments or competent authorities for radiation protection is considered a strong asset.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree in engineering or physical/nuclear/radiological sciences. A first level university degree in engineering or physical/nuclear/radiological sciences plus two years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration
Tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $103165 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 55915*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; Other benefits include 6 weeks' annual leave, home leave travel, pension plan and health insurance.
